YARMOUTH, N.S. — The Yarmouth Town RCMP Detachment has teamed up with the Tri-County Crime Prevention Association and local businesses to reward designated drivers for family and friends over the holidays.

From Dec. 11 until New Year’s Day, any driver stopped by police, or those who come through a checkpoint and advise officers that they are the designated driver, will receive a treat bag.

These will contain items donated from local businesses and a card recognizing those that have contributed to the campaign.

Sgt. Paul Pittman says so far the response has been “fantastic.”

“We hope that the community realizes that they play an important role in combating impaired driving,” he said.
