Halifax Regional Police and the RCMP are reminding drivers to take the necessary precautions when heading out on their morning commute Wednesday.

"(Winter) road conditions often warrant a significantly slower speed than what is posted," Const. John MacLeod said in a news release. "Remember to allow extra time for your commute so you don't feel that you have to rush."

Drivers are also reminded to begin stopping earlier when approaching a red light or stop sign, clear all the snow off of their vehicle, make sure your headlights are on and watch for pedestrians and cyclists.

All Tri-County Regional Centre for Education schools in Shelburne County are closed for the day.

Halifax Regional Centre for Education says some buses may be delayed depending on road conditions in the area, while South Shore Regional Centre for Education buses are operating on the back road closure plan.

The South Shore education centre also reported that one of its buses was involved in a minor accident in Mahone Bay this morning when it had 11 students on board on the way to school. The crash happened on Clearland Road, the centre tweeted. "EHS is on scene, there are no injuries. Another bus is on the way to get the students. Bus is approx 40 mins late."

About three centimetres of snow fell yesterday at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, according to Environment Canada.

Lunenburg County, where all trucks are out to clear the roads, saw about 10 centimetres of snow, said the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.
